Garden Grove Street Race Ends in Death

A street race in Garden Grove turned lethal Friday night when a Fullerton man died after losing control of his car and crashing into one coming from the opposite direction, police said.
The driver of the oncoming car, a 56-year-old Westminster woman, was badly hurt. She was taken to UCI Medical Center, and no information about her condition was available Saturday.
The Fullerton resident, 46, whose identity was withheld until his relatives could be notified, was racing his white Volkswagen Beetle against a black Toyota Scion northbound on Western Street just before 8 p.m., officers said. The Beetle veered into southbound lanes as it entered the Lampson Avenue intersection and collided with the woman’s Nissan sedan.
Police were looking for the driver of the Scion, which was described as having tinted windows and a spoiler.
