Blackout coming? Check your e-mail

Californians worried about unexpected rolling blackouts can now get word that the power is going out before the roast defrosts in the freezer.
The state’s Emergency Digital Information Service, offered by the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services, partners with private, local, state and federal organizations and agencies to issue bulletins about disasters and emergencies, including blackouts.
The bulletins appear online at edis.oes.ca.gov, and through providers such as incident.com, which alerts subscribers, for free, on their cellphones, pagers, personal digital assistants or via e-mail. Some providers charge a fee.
