ROUNDUP
New York 8, at Texas 7: Jason Giambi hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning and the Yankees completed a three-game sweep. After the Rangers scored four times in the eighth to go ahead, 7-6, Derek Jeter led off the ninth with a single against closer Akinori Otsuka (2-4). at Oakland 5, Boston 1: Frank Thomas homered twice and drove in four runs to help Dan Haren win for the first time in six weeks and the Athletics avoided a three-game sweep. It marked the second two-homer game this season for Thomas and the 28th of his career.
Detroit 4, at Cleveland 1: Rookie Justin Verlander (13-4) outpitched C.C. Sabathia, striking out a career-high eight and gave up one run and five hits with no walks in 6 2/3 innings. Verlander is 6-0 in his last eight starts.
