9 State Researchers Released by Rebels
Nine environmentalists were released by their rebel captors after they disappeared days earlier while conducting research in northern Colombia, the military said.
The researchers, who work for a state environmental office in the province of Cesar, had not returned as expected Thursday from a field trip in the Sierra de Perija, 375 miles north of the capital, Bogota.
The military said rebels from the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, kidnapped the nine Friday morning. Army pressure on the area facilitated their release, the military added.
