Sheriff’s deputies are investigating two shooting deaths since Friday in Compton, which despite the new homicide cases has seen a substantial decline in killings this year.
Neither of the victims was identified. The first was described only as a black woman. She was discovered shortly after 2 a.m. Friday in a motel in the 1100 block of South Long Beach Avenue, shot in the head by an assault-type rifle, deputies said.
In the other case, reported at 11:40 p.m. Saturday, the victim was a 19-year-old Latino man. He was found with a gunshot wound to his head in the front seat of a car at Oleander Avenue and Tichenor Street.
