Victims, Survivors of Plane Crash Identified
A family of four whose plane went down near a Ventura County lemon grove Saturday -- killing a mother and her 5-year-old son -- has been identified, and the father remained in critical condition.
Karen Santoro of Santa Barbara and her son, Ian, died in the crash, said James Baroni of the Ventura County coroner’s office.
Robert Santoro was in critical condition with a nearly severed leg, several broken bones and facial trauma, and his 7-year-old son, Dawson, escaped major injury but was admitted to the hospital with back pain, medical officials said.
Both were thrown from the plane before it came to rest in a drainage ditch, authorities said.
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of the crash.
