Adding 819 locations gave the Weinstein Co. release “The Matador†a significant bump and entrance to the top 10, positioning the movie to take advantage of a possible Oscar nomination for Pierce Brosnan, who plays a professional assassin gone to seed. “Brokeback Mountain†added 458 more locations to achieve the widest release yet (1,643 venues) for the cowboys-in-love story. Another same-sex relationship movie, “Imagine Me & You,†opened with about $51,907 in eight theaters.

Steven Soderbergh’s experimental movie “Bubble†took in about $70,664 in 32 locations, but distributor Magnolia Pictures expects to make the bulk of its money through today’s release of the movie on DVD as well as from TV and foreign sales.
