Bluthner piano makes debut

THERE will be a big piano party at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Goethe-Institut Los Angeles when the German cultural and information center initiates its new Bluthner piano.

Keyboard artists Victor Alexeef, Christoph Bull, Markus Burger and Serge Kasimoff will play a program ranging from Bach to salsa. Afterward, pianists in the audience will get a chance to tickle the ivories.

“It started out as a party idea and got bigger,†says Goethe-Institut program director Margit Kleinman. “We’re honoring the Kasimoff family and [their Larchmont Boulevard] Bluthner music store, who loaned us the piano, and we also wanted to highlight a couple of German and non-German pianists who will play.â€

As for any amateurs stepping up to the plate, Kleinman isn’t too worried.

“If they can’t play, we hope they’ll restrict themselves to, well, a minute. I think the affair will regulate itself.â€
