Carmichael and Stewart Headline Event in Anaheim
The Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series returns to Angel Stadium in Anaheim tonight with dirt bike superstars Ricky Carmichael and James “Bubba” Stewart tied in the series’ point chase.
Stewart rode his four-stroke Kawasaki to a nine-second victory in the series’ sold-out opener at Angel Stadium on Jan. 7, with defending champion Carmichael finishing third.
They swapped places the following week in Phoenix. Carmichael, a four-time title winner, won the event for his Makita Suzuki Racing team and Stewart was third.
Both now have 45 points in the series. Only one point behind them is another title hopeful, 2004 champion Chad Reed, who finished second in both races for Yamaha. Honda rider Mike LaRocco of Corona is fourth in the standings.
The series heads to San Francisco next weekend and then returns for one more stop at Angel Stadium on Feb. 4. If someone other than Carmichael or Stewart wins tonight, it will be the first time since 2003 that three riders have won the series’ three opening rounds.
