Smart proposals for ‘intelligent design’
Re “A Fault Line for ‘Intelligent Design,’ ” Jan. 12
I have a proposal for those religious fundamentalists who insist on promoting “intelligent design” in our public schools. We will allow courses on intelligent design (and other creation myths) to be taught in public schools if you allow courses on evolution and other sciences to be taught in churches.

So the denizens of Frazier Park, Lebec, Gorman and other mountain communities want to teach intelligent design in their public schools. I wonder if they still believe the world is flat and that indoor plumbing is just a flawed theory.

The “Philosophy of Design” class at Frazier Mountain High School should offer the creation theories of all major religions. Why should the Christian theory be singled out?
One proponent of the class who is quoted in your article says, “They teach Buddha, Muhammad and everybody else. I believe they should teach Christianity too.” She is right, as long as no religious view is given special preference.
They should change the name of the class to “Comparative Religions” and give equal time to each one. I think the protesting parents would accept that.
