Europe’s Airbus and Boeing Co. may experience a drop of as much as a 61% in new orders this year as a rush by airlines to obtain delivery dates subsides.
New contracts in 2006 may amount to a more “normal” 800 aircraft, said John Leahy, Airbus’ chief commercial officer.
Airbus’ orders almost tripled in 2005 to 1,055 airliners. Chicago-based Boeing orders more than tripled to 1,002 planes.
