Damages Paid to Settle Suit by Palestinians

Israel paid damages to settle a decade-old lawsuit by 28 Palestinians who alleged that they were tortured while in military custody, lawyers said. No fault was admitted in the out-of-court deal.
Israel’s closed-door interrogation methods, which the government calls crucial for counter-terrorism, have drawn mounting censure from anti-torture campaigners.
The lawyer for the Palestinians arrested and interrogated in the early 1990s said his clients received $536,000 last month and in exchange agreed to abandon their lawsuit.
