Four people, including a 12-year-old boy, died Thursday when a small plane crashed on state Highway 4 while attempting to land in cloudy, rainy weather, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The single-engine craft, registered to John Frank Mauricio of Las Vegas, went down about 11 a.m. near Concord’s Buchanan Airport on eastbound Highway 4 at its intersection with Interstate 680. The pilot, a 78-year-old man, and two women, ages 45 and 73, were pronounced dead at the scene, said CHP Officer Scott Yox. The boy died during surgery at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, he said.
