Costa Mesa man kills wife, then himself, police say

A 50-year-old man fatally shot his wife in their Cosa Mesa apartment and held off police for more than four hours Saturday with threats and a gunshot in their direction before committing suicide, police said.
The police declined to identify the man or his 58-year-old wife Sunday because family members had not been notified.
The couple lived in an apartment complex in the 2300 block of Vanguard Way. Neighbor Jeff Clark said police told residents to lock their doors and shut off the lights during the standoff.
