Mitchell added to ‘Early Show’

More changes are in store for CBS’ “The Early Show.” Just days after anchor Rene Syler announced she is leaving the third-place morning show, CBS gave word Thursday that weekend anchor Russ Mitchell will join the program as a news anchor Jan. 2.

The addition of Mitchell, who will continue to anchor the Sunday edition of “CBS Evening News,” brings the number of “Early Show” hosts back up to five, one more than its competitors. But specifically naming him a news anchor -- a position held by Ann Curry on NBC’s “Today” show -- will help “further define the roles of our anchors,” CBS News President Sean McManus said.
