Marine Recruit Depot to Get 1st Female Leader

Marine Brig. Gen. Angela Salinas is set Friday to become the first woman to command the Marine Corps Recruit Depot here.
Salinas, a 32-year veteran of the Corps, will succeed Maj. Gen. John Paxton Jr., who has been named commanding general of the 1st Marine Division at Camp Pendleton. The depot trains 18,000 young men a year.
Salinas has been chief of staff to the Marine Corps Recruiting Region in Quantico, Va. Besides commanding the recruit depot, she will head the Western Recruiting Command.
