Orange County election officials began a hand recount Wednesday of ballots cast in last week’s special state Senate race.
Assemblyman Tom Harman (R-Huntington Beach) faces Democrat Larry Caballero of La Palma in a June 6 runoff after beating fellow Republican Diane Harkey, a Dana Point councilwoman, by 236 votes out of nearly 10,000 cast.
Harkey is paying about $2,000 a day for the recount. The seat became vacant in December when John Campbell (R-Irvine) was elected to Congress.
