Ex-Teen Idol Gets 45 Days in Jail
Former teen idol Leif Garrett has been jailed for 45 days after failing several drug tests while in a strict live-in rehabilitation program, authorities said Thursday.
Garrett began the sentence March 30 after a Superior Court commissioner determined that he had violated terms of the program, said Jane Robison, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
Garrett, 44, was undergoing rehabilitation for violating probation in a cocaine case stemming from a 2004 arrest. After his last progress hearing March 9, he said he had made advances in fighting his addiction: “I’m going down the right path.â€
Garrett also faces charges of felony heroin possession. Officers who stopped him Jan. 14 for trying to ride a Los Angeles subway train without a ticket said they found what appeared to be narcotics on him. Garrett has pleaded not guilty in that case.
