September home sales rise by 6%

Sales of new and existing homes and condominiums in the six-county Southern California area were up 6% last month over September 2004, according to DataQuick Information Systems. The median home price in the region reportedly rose 16.1% to $475,000.
San Bernardino and Los Angeles counties led the region with median home-price increases of 32.8% and 21.4%, respectively.
San Diego County continued to lag in price appreciation. Its $498,000 median home price in September represents a 3.8% annual increase.
Statewide, the median price paid for a home last month was $455,000, up 17.3% from $388,000 a year ago and down 0.2% from $456,000 in August.
