Chocano’s touch

THE new movie about Truman Capote cannot possibly be as wonderful and comprehensive as the perfectly written review by Carina Chocano [“In Cold Blood,” Sept. 30].

I’VE just finished another couple of reviews by Carina Chocano, and I always have the same experience, though I’m not sure what it is.
It’s clear that she’s smart -- really smart -- and articulate, and more than knowledgeable across the board, but ... something. It’s as if she feels movies are great intellectual giants, intellectual antagonists to be wrestled down to the mat and tied there. “Whew,” I think, “I’m glad she got to the bottom of that!” It’s exhausting.
Maybe it’s that I never get the sense that she just likes movies. Just likes them.
