From Times Wire Reports
Heavy, wet snow broke tree limbs and caused electric outages around Rapid City, S.D. Crews were working to restore electricity to about 5,000 homes and businesses, and schools were closed.
Rapid City set a single-day snow record Wednesday with 7.5 inches, almost double the 4-inch mark for the date set in 1983. By early Thursday, the total accumulation there topped 9 inches.
About a foot of snow also covered parts of North Dakota, snarling traffic. Landowners struggling with a persistent drought welcomed the late-season storm.
