The City Council voted 11 to 0 Wednesday to create a task force to investigate animal blood sports and other cruelty issues.
Activists with about a dozen dogs -- many showing scars from fights -- attended the meeting to support the legislation, written by Councilman Tony Cardenas.
The unit will include two police detectives, five officers from the city’s animal services agency and a prosecutor from the city attorney’s office.
