Huge houses to fit their egos

BRAVO for the special section “Space: The Interior Landscape” [April 28]. I feel as if some momentum has finally been gained for this important issue. For years I have suffered through friends and acquaintances designing preposterous homes that have no purpose other than to look good on a Realtor’s spec sheet.
When I talk about quality of space and being happy in your home, eyes just glaze over. “But my architect says that I will never get all that I want with less than 5,000 square feet,” they respond. Maybe they should get another architect.
