A daughter worthy of dad
Mentioning Wendy Melvoin as the producer of the Like [“From Cradle to Rave,†March 17] without saying that she worked and performed with Prince for many years is an oversight.
She has also been a recording artist in her own right and is a film composer.
It is a tremendous oversight not to mention that her father, Mike Melvoin, is the noted pianist, recording artist, producer, arranger and film composer, who has been a major force in the L.A. music scene for many years. He has recorded with Frank Sinatra, the Jackson Five and Charlie Haden among many others.
He is so well known and respected in the industry that he was elected as national president and chairman of the board of trustees of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, serving two terms.

Thank goodness you have finally shone a light on the struggles of music industry scions to overcome the curses of affluence, privilege and nepotism to make their rock ‘n’ roll entitleme ... err ... dreams come true.
Why, some of them must have struggled for weeks to get signed by the record company where daddy is the president of A&R.;
Too bad they weren’t as lucky as acts like Nirvana and Green Day, to be born into working-class backgrounds and to have earned opportunity rather than have it handed to them.
