From Times Staff and Wire Reports
A man was sentenced Monday to life in prison for killing two workers at an auto parts store where he was denied a refund on $20 brake pads.
The sentence came after Byron Jackson, 42, pleaded guilty. It was a third-strike case for Jackson, who is not eligible for parole.
Authorities said Jackson was a regular customer at an Auto Zone shop in Van Nuys where he shot and killed manager Carlos Avalos, 44, and employee Francisco Mercado, 33, in 2002.
