Re “Last Gas Before Honolulu,” Feb. 24: There’s a problem with your proposed motto for Los Angeles, “Silicon Implant Valley.” “Silicone” is not a fancy spelling of “silicon,” but a distinct substance. Silicon made the Valley; silicone makes the peaks.

On a recent visit, while on a sightseeing drive, a friend who has loved Los Angeles for many years spontaneously declared that, for him, Los Angeles is the “Capital of Now.” Not bad.
