Raids Free 44 Abductees Said to Have Crime Links

Forty-four abductees were freed in a series of raids by soldiers and federal agents in the border city of Nuevo Laredo, investigators said.
The people freed Sunday told authorities that they were kidnapped by police or the Zetas gang, Deputy Public Safety Secretary Rafael Rios said.
Deputy Atty. Gen. Gilberto Higuera said those rescued were apparently “involved in criminal activities and were not victims of kidnappings†for ransom.
