Car Bomb Hits U.S. Convoy in South
From Times Wire Reports
A suicide car bomber attacked an American military convoy outside the southern Afghan city of Kandahar early today, but initial reports on casualties varied.
One police officer said five U.S. soldiers were killed in the blast, and the deputy police chief of Kandahar said three died. But an American military spokeswoman said four troops were injured and were evacuated for treatment.
Violence has been on the rise in southern and eastern Afghanistan in recent months. Since March, at least 13 U.S. soldiers have been killed.
