Carter Criticizes Iraq War, Guantanamo Camp

Former President Carter, speaking at a Baptist World Alliance conference in Birmingham, England, criticized the detention of terrorism suspects at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and called the U.S.-led war in Iraq “unnecessary and unjust.â€
“I think what’s going on in Guantanamo Bay and other places is a disgrace to the U.S.A.,†he said. Hundreds of detainees have been held indefinitely at Guantanamo, without charge or access to lawyers.
Carter also said he thought the Iraq war was launched on false premises.
