Judge grants Kelly more time

R&B; singer R. Kelly, who appeared bruised and battered in a Chicago courtroom this week during his trial on charges that he had sex with an underage girl, was granted extra time to defend himself against the accusations.
Kelly appeared in court sporting a bandage just above his right eyebrow, which his lawyer said was the result of a rough basketball game with friends.
Kelly’s attorney said his team needs more time to find witnesses who can testify about the age of the teenager seen having sex with the singer on a now infamous videotape. Cook County Circuit Judge Vincent Gaughan agreed to give them until Sept. 2.
