Other Deaths

Travis S. Cooper, 24, of Macon, Miss.; sergeant, Army National Guard. Cooper died July 16 in Balad, Iraq, of wounds suffered the previous day when an improvised explosive device detonated near a vehicle he was searching in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 114th Field Artillery Regiment, Army National Guard in Starkville, Miss.

Jefferey J. Farrow, 28, of Birmingham, Ala.; staff sergeant, Army Reserve. Farrow died of noncombat-related injuries Tuesday at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait. He was assigned to the 146th Quartermaster Company, Army Reserve at Ft. Totten, N.Y.

Steven P. Gill, 24, of Round Rock, Texas; corporal, Marine Corps Reserve. Gill was killed Thursday when an improvised explosive device detonated near him during combat operations near Zaidon Village, Iraq, southeast of Fallouja. He was assigned to the 4th Reconnaissance Battalion, 4th Marine Division, Marine Corps Reserve in San Antonio. As part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, his unit was attached to Regimental Combat Team 8, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward).

Jared D. Hartley, 22, of Newkirk, Okla.; specialist, Army. Hartley was killed July 15 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee in Taji, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 125th Forward Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 1st Armored Division at Ft. Riley, Kan.

Timothy J. Hines Jr., 21, of Fairfield, Ohio; private first class, Army. Hines died July 14 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., of injuries suffered June 19 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 64th Military Police Company, 720th Military Police Battalion, 89th Military Police Brigade at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Tricia L. Jameson, 34, of Omaha; staff sergeant, Army National Guard. Jameson, a medic, was killed July 14 while responding to a casualty incident when a secondary improvised explosive device detonated near her Humvee ambulance in Trebil, Iraq, close to the border with Jordan. She was assigned to the 313th Medical Company (Ground Ambulance), Army National Guard in Lincoln, Neb.

Lavena L. Johnson, 19, of Florissant, Mo.; private, Army. Johnson died of noncombatrelated injuries Tuesday in Balad, Iraq, north of Baghdad. She was assigned to the 129th Corps Support Battalion at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Arthur R. McGill, 25, of Gravette, Ark.; sergeant, Army. McGill was killed Tuesday when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee while on patrol in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 9th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division at Ft. Stewart, Ga.

Clifton B. Mounce, 22, of Pontotoc, Miss.; corporal, Marine Corps. Mounce was one of two Marines killed July 14 when their vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device near Trebil, Iraq, close to the border with Jordan. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C. As part of Operation Iraqi Freedom he was assigned to the 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, Regimental Combat Team 2, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward).

Jorge L. Pena-Romero, 29, of Fallbrook, Calif.; staff sergeant, Army. Pena-Romero was killed July 16 when an improved explosive device detonated near his Humvee while on patrol in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment at Ft. Irwin, Calif.

Efrain Sanchez Jr., 26, of Port Chester, N.Y.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Sanchez died July 17 in a nonhostile incident at Camp Blue Diamond in Ramadi, Iraq. He was assigned to the Headquarters Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Frank Tiai, 45, of Pago Pago, American Samoa; staff sergeant, Army Reserve. Tiai was killed July 17 when an improvised explosive device detonated near him in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 100th Battalion, 442nd Infantry, Army Reserve at Ft. Shafter, Hawaii.

Ronnie D. Williams, 26, of Erlanger, Ky.; specialist, Army. Williams died July 17 in Baghdad of injuries suffered the previous day when his M1A2 Abrams tank left the road during patrol operations and became submerged in a canal. He was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Ft. Carson, Colo.

Christopher D. Winchester, 23, of Flomaton, Ala.; corporal, Marine Corps. Winchester was one of two Marines killed July 14 when their vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device near Trebil, Iraq, close to the border with Jordan. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C. Ronald T. Wood, 28, of Cedar City, Utah; sergeant first class, Army National Guard. Wood was killed July 16 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee in the northern city of Kirkuk, Iraq. He was assigned to the 148th Field Artillery, Army National Guard in Brigham City, Utah.

Travis L. Youngblood, 26, of Surrency, Ga.; petty officer third class, Navy. Youngblood died Thursday of injuries suffered July 15 when an improvised explosive device detonated near him in Hit, Iraq, on the Euphrates River. He was a hospital corpsman assigned to Naval Hospital Great Lakes in Great Lakes, Ill., and deployed with the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward).
