Times Hires Marketing and Planning Executive
John T. O’Loughlin has been named senior vice president of marketing, planning and development at the Los Angeles Times, the newspaper said Wednesday.
O’Loughlin, 37, had been general manager of the Chicago Tribune’s youth-oriented tabloid RedEye since its inception and launch in 2002, where he was responsible for the publication’s editorial, circulation, operations, sales, marketing and financial functions.
The Times and the Tribune are units of Chicago-based Tribune Co.
O’Loughlin will report to Times Publisher Jeff Johnson for planning and development activities and to David P. Murphy, executive vice president and general manager, for marketing activities, beginning Aug. 1. He succeeds Steven U. Lee, who resigned as senior vice president of marketing and planning.
From 2001 to 2002, O’Loughlin was director of strategic marketing for Tribune Co., where he was responsible for all strategic planning and general marketing functions, including brand advertising and communications.
“John is an outstanding executive,†Johnson said, “who balances an understanding of the fundamentals of the newspaper business with an ability to innovate and create new products and solutions that meet the needs of both readers and advertisers.â€
