Pick-Six Bettors Might Look to Douglas in Fifth
Jockey Rene Douglas, who leads the Santa Anita jockey standings by four winners over Tyler Baze, will be aboard one of the possible singles in today’s pick six, which has a carry-over of $143,319.
Douglas will be aboard Overnightsensation, the favorite to win the fifth, a $46,000 maiden affair for California-bred fillies and mares at a mile on the turf.
Trained by Wally Dollase, Overnightsensation is in with state-breds again after chasing impressive winner Princess Sequoia in her first two-turn race Jan. 5.
Being a daughter of Bertrando, Overnightsensation should be right at home on the turf.
Douglas, who had four winners on Saturday’s card, has mounts in three other pick-six races. He will be aboard Sum Trick, who is taking a big class drop for trainer Rafael Becerra, in the fourth, Time For Liberty in the sixth and Moonlight Cruise in the seventh.
Race of the day: True Gold, who has begun her career with consecutive victories, will try for her second win over Aqueduct’s inner track in today’s eighth, a $45,000 allowance at six furlongs. Rafael Bejarano will ride the 4-year-old Touch Gold filly for trainer Tom Bush, who has won with 12 of 31 starters at the meet. Seven others are expected to go, including High Peaks, who will race coupled with True Gold.
One for the road: Pale Peach ran well in her first start for trainer Mark Hanna and looks ready to stretch out and graduate against a very weak field in today’s eighth at Golden Gate Fields. Frank Alvarado, who is second in the standings behind Russell Baze, will ride the 3-year-old Din’s Dancer filly in the one-mile race for 3-year-old maiden fillies running for an $8,000 claiming price.
Exotically speaking: A pick four using Overnightsensation in the fifth, Rashard Lamar, Gilded Bertrando and Time For Liberty in the sixth, Mea Domina and Boasting in the seventh and Territorial, Quinton Strikes and Token Wild One in the eighth.
Winners: Previous day/meet total: 2/58. Money: Previous day/meet total: $9/$316.40. Total money bet: $376.
