As Sinkhole Swallows House, Residents Flee
From Times Wire Reports
A 110-foot-wide sinkhole opened and destroyed one house, damaged a second and forced the evacuation of 11 others in Orange City, about 20 miles southwest of Daytona Beach.
No injuries were reported. A woman fled with her baby before their house sank to the level of its roof, Volusia County spokesman Dave Byron said.
It was the second large sinkhole to open in the county in less than two months. A hole swallowed four lanes of a road and cracked a neighboring house in December.
