Include family in shyness therapy
Re “How Shy Is Too Shy?†[Feb. 21]: Having worked with severely shy and socially anxious adults, children and adolescents for the last 25 years, I believe it is important that family therapy be included along with psychosocial and medication interventions. In this decade of the brain, biochemical solutions are sought before we look at the system that might be maintaining, or unknowingly contributing to, the problem. The school or teacher may also need to be part of the solution.
