Online Sales Surge, Led by Electronics

Holiday sales on the Internet increased 30% over last year as people shopped online for computers and electronic devices.

Sales from Oct. 29 to Dec. 23 rose to $30.1 billion, according to a survey conducted by research firm Nielsen/NetRatings, Goldman, Sachs & Co. and Harris Interactive. Research firm ComScore Networks Inc. reported that holiday online sales increased 25% to $18.1 billion from Nov. 1 through Dec. 25.
