DaimlerChrysler reached a $94-million settlement with the government to repair defective emission controls on nearly 1.5 million Jeep and Dodge vehicles, federal officials said.

The Justice Department and the Environmental Protection Agency said the agreement involved vehicles from model years 1996 to 2001. It settles allegations the company violated the Clean Air Act by failing to properly disclose defective catalytic converters installed in the vehicles.

The automaker said that it had not violated the law and that EPA and California officials “have acknowledged that DaimlerChrysler has acted in good faith in resolving this matter.â€
