Carney Leads Memphis in a Rout

Rodney Carney scored a career-high 37 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead No. 4 Memphis to a 76-58 victory over Louisiana Tech on Tuesday night at Memphis, Tenn.

The Tigers (9-1) won their sixth straight since losing to No. 1 Duke in the finals of the Preseason NIT.

Paul Millsap led Louisiana Tech (6-5) with 27 points and 12 rebounds.

No. 11 Louisville 76, Middle Tennessee 68 -- Brandon Jenkins scored a career-high 20 points and David Padgett added 18 for the Cardinals in the first round of the Billy Minardi Classic at Louisville, Ky.

Adam Vogelsburg led five Middle Tennessee (5-3) players in double figures with 14 points.

No. 25 Iowa 65, Drake 60 -- Adam Haluska hit two three-pointers in the final 1:37 at Iowa City, Iowa, and the Hawkeyes beat the Bulldogs for the 27th straight time.

Greg Brunner had 17 points and 12 rebounds for Iowa (9-3), which improved to 11-0 against Drake (6-4) at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

WOMEN

No. 1 Tennessee 107, Princeton 39 -- Shanna Zolman scored 23 points and Tye’sha Fluker had 15 points and eight rebounds to lead Tennessee.

Tennessee (10-0) shot 59.7% from the field and out-rebounded Princeton, 52-22.

Princeton (6-4) shot 29.3% from the field and was four for 23 from three-point range.

No. 3 Louisiana State 89, Tulane 60 -- Seimone Augustus scored 20 points and Sylvia Fowles added 19 at Baton Rouge, La.

The Lady Tigers (8-0) let their frontcourt stars rest the final 12 minutes with the game in hand.

Freshman Sasha Staidum led Tulane (4-2) with a season-high 13 points.

No. 5 North Carolina 87, No. 19 Vanderbilt 67 -- Ivory Latta had 22 points and eight assists as North Carolina stayed unbeaten with a victory over Vanderbilt at Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The Tar Heels (11-0) are off to their best start since the 1994-95 season when they were 18-0.

Latta, playing in her native state, had three layups to kick start a 19-2 first-half run that gave North Carolina the lead for good.

Camille Little had 14 points and Rashanda McCants, the sister of former Tar Heel Rashad McCants, added 13 for North Carolina.

Christina Wirth, Cherish Stringfield and Nicole Jules led the Commodores (8-3) with 11 points each.

No. 7 Ohio State 84, Sacred Heart 40 -- Jessica Davenport had 19 points and eight rebounds, and Ohio State bounced back from its only loss with a victory over Sacred Heart (6-2) at Columbus, Ohio.

Debbie Merrill added 14 points and seven rebounds for the Buckeyes (7-1). Brandie Hoskins scored 12 points and Kim Wilburn had 10.

No. 10 Stanford 76, Washington State 56 -- Brooke Smith scored 17 points to lead Stanford to its 41st straight victory over host Washington State.

Candice Wiggins and Krista Rappahahn added 14 points each for the Cardinal (6-2, 1-0 Pacific 10 Conference). Kate Benz led Washington State (6-3, 0-1) with 12 points.

Stanford remained unbeaten against Washington State. The Cougars have lost two straight games to top-25 teams since matching their total of six wins for each of the previous two seasons.

No. 14 DePaul 96, Loyola of Chicago 48 -- Khara Smith scored 17 points and Caprice Smith added 12 to lead DePaul to an easy victory over winless Loyola of Chicago.

The Blue Demons (11-1) are off to their best start. They were 10-1 in 1985-86 and 2003-04.

No. 21 Purdue 61, Mississippi State 42 -- Katie Gearlds had 15 points and Purdue beat Mississippi State in the championship game of the Mississippi State Classic at Starkville, Miss.

Erin Lawless added 14 points and Natasha Bogdanova had 11 rebounds for the Boilermakers (8-2), who led, 35-12, at halftime and went on to win their fourth straight.

Marneshia Richard led the Bulldogs (4-7) with 12 points.

Louisiana Tech 84, No. 24 Mississippi 71 -- Tasha Williams scored 21 points and Ty Moore added 20 at Ruston, La., as Louisiana Tech ended Mississippi’s six-game winning streak.

Mississippi (9-2) was playing its first game since moving into the Associated Press top 25. Louisiana Tech (6-3) rebounded from an 83-59 to Tennessee.

Armintie Price led Mississippi with 21 points.
