Palm’s Profit Leaps on Boost in Shipments

Hand-held computer maker Palm Inc. said profit was up tenfold in its fiscal second quarter as the company added carriers and increased shipments of its Web-enabled cellphones.
Palm earned $260.9 million, or $5.02 a share, in the three months ended Nov. 30, up from $24.7 million, or 48 cents, a year earlier. Excluding certain items, Palm said it would have earned $24.4 million, or 47 cents.
Revenue rose 18% to $444.6 million from $376.2 million.
