“Syriana,†a political thriller starring George Clooney, and “The New World,†about a 17th century English explorer, are the two U.S. films that will be featured at the 56th annual Berlin International Film Festival in February.
They were among the nine films for the event unveiled Tuesday. The rest of the 26-movie lineup will be announced in mid-January, festival director Dieter Kosslick said.
The U.S. films will be shown out of competition. Among those that will be vying for the festival’s Golden and Silver Bear awards are entries from Germany, Australia, China and Thailand.
