Los Angeles police officers shot and wounded a man Saturday night after responding to reports that he was shooting an assault weapon near the intersection of Belhaven Avenue and 113th Street.
At about 8:30 p.m., officers arrived at the scene and observed the man firing a weapon, said Officer Ursula Guillory, a department spokeswoman. When they ordered him to put the weapon down, he turned in their direction, and the officers shot him in the torso, Guillory said.
The man, who was not identified, was undergoing surgery Saturday night, Guillory said.
