Separate struggles

“Cultural observers” should not insult the intelligence of folks and the efforts of those involved in the civil rights movement by comparing folks like C-Murder, Beanie Sigel and others to Eldridge Cleaver, Angela Davis and Assata Shakur as Baz Dreisinger suggests in “Hard Rhymes” [April 3]. Folks like Cleaver, Davis, Martin Luther King Jr., Bobby Seale and others were incarcerated while trying to uplift the race. The words of these MCs are poignant and reflective of problems, but the reasons for much of their situations are dramatically different from those of the struggle.
