Sanneh Extends Crew’s Undefeated String
Tony Sanneh headed a free kick past goalkeeper Nick Rimando in the 10th minute and the host Columbus Crew extended its unbeaten streak to a Major League Soccer single-season-record 14 games with a 1-0 victory over D.C. United on Saturday night.
Columbus (11-5-10) clinched a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference and home-field advantage through the first round. D.C. United is 8-10-9.
The Galaxy was unbeaten in 15 consecutive games in the 1997 and ’98 seasons.
Kansas City 1, Colorado 0 -- Russian striker Igor Simutenkov scored in the 55th minute at Kansas City, Mo., to lift the Wizards over the Rapids.
The first-place Wizards extended their lead in the Western Conference, improving to 13-9-5 with 44 points, five more than Colorado (10-9-9).
MetroStars 2, Dallas 0 -- John Wolyniec scored in the 30th minute at Dallas and goalkeeper Jonny Walker recorded his fifth shutout this season to help the MetroStars (11-10-6, 39 points) clinch a playoff spot.
Cornell Glen scored a breakaway goal in the final minutes of injury time. The Burn is 10-12-5 with 35 points.
Chicago 2, New England 0 -- Andy Herron scored two goals at Chicago and the Fire (8-11-8, 32 points) took a five-point lead over the Revolution (6-11-9) for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
Herron scored in the seventh and 77th minutes.
