Fraud Probes Familiar to Postal Inspectors
“FBI Shift Crimps White- Collar Crime Probes†(Aug. 30) accurately describes the challenges the FBI faces investigating white-collar crime when counter-terrorism has become a priority.
It fails to mention, however, that other federal agencies, including the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Internal Revenue Service and the Postal Inspection Service, have historically conducted white- collar investigations, independently and in partnership with the FBI.
The article mentioned how the Postal Inspection Service “helped fill the gap by moving experienced agents back into fraud work.â€
In the last two years, Los Angeles postal inspectors have investigated more than 40 significant fraud cases.
