Wilson Boys’ Water Polo Sinks Servite
Matt Sagehorn and Scott Swanson each had two third-quarter goals as the Long Beach Wilson boys’ water polo team, ranked No. 1 in the Southern Section Division I coaches’ poll, beat Anaheim Servite, 7-5, in a quarterfinal game of the South Coast tournament at Corona del Mar High.
The scores by Sagehorn and Swanson gave the Bruins (6-0) a 6-4 lead over Servite (3-3) entering the fourth quarter. The score was 2-2 halftime.
Wilson faces Los Alamitos, ranked No. 2 in Division II, in a semifinal match at 11:40 a.m. today at Newport Harbor.
Los Alamitos defeated Santa Ana Foothill, 8-4, in its quarterfinal, with Scott Davidson scoring four goals and Steven Brook scoring two.

Trevor Theriot, a fullback who moved to tailback to compensate for injured teammates, dislocated his left elbow while playing linebacker in Newport Harbor’s 21-17 victory Thursday over Corona del Mar.
Theriot, who was injured in the second quarter but returned in the third, has been told by doctors that he can resume full-contact conditioning and drills on Monday. Coach Jeff Brinkley had said after the game that Theriot, who is on a recruiting trip this weekend to Stanford, had probably suffered a fracture.
The top two teams in The Times’ rankings, No. 1 Mission Viejo and No. 2 Long Beach Poly, will meet Friday at Long Beach Cabrillo High in a regionally televised game. FSN West will broadcast the game live at 7 p.m.
Tickets to the game are available at each school and will not be available at the gate. Poly is selling tickets on campus from 8-11 a.m. and 1-4 p.m. each school day.
Mark Sanchez, quarterback for top-ranked Mission Viejo, has been selected to participate in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Jan. 15 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
Sanchez, who has committed to USC, led the Diablos to a 13-1 mark last year and has them 3-0 this season after a 50-0 victory over Huntington Beach Marina on Friday.
