A judge sentenced Rafael Gevorgyan to 18 years in prison Friday for killing a high school student in Glendale in May 2000.

Gevorgyan, 19, was convicted of voluntary manslaughter in July. His co-defendant, 22-year-old Karen Terteryan, is serving 23 years and eight months in state prison. A third defendant, Anait Msryan, 18, received a seven-year term in the California Youth Authority after pleading guilty to attempted murder.

The three were involved in the fatal stabbing of Raul Aguirre, who had planned to enlist in the U.S. Marine Corps after graduating from high school.
