Bitten Teenager Dies of Equine Encephalitis
From Times Wire Reports
A teenager has died after being bitten by a mosquito infected with eastern equine encephalitis, becoming the second Massachusetts resident killed by the rare disease this summer, a state official said in Boston.
The teenager, whose sex, name and age were not released, died in a hospital, a spokeswoman for the state’s health department said.
Earlier in August, a man in his 60s who worked as a landscaper also died from encephalitis.
The virus that causes it is similar to the West Nile virus.
