I-15 Project Is Altered to Ease Commute
Responding to complaints from commuters, the California Department of Transportation has adjusted a freeway construction schedule for Interstate 15 in Devore that will keep more lanes open during the week and keep some closed during the weekend.
Under the original schedule, the 3.4-mile project was to begin Sept. 13, with around-the-clock construction Monday through Thursday. During construction, the four lanes in each direction would be reduced to two lanes in each direction. Under that schedule, the project would have been completed in six weeks.
But after hearing from angry commuters in Victorville who faced daily 90-minute delays, Caltrans unveiled a new schedule to begin construction Oct. 3 with three southbound lanes open in the morning.
To make up for the lost time, Caltrans will work through the weekends, ensuring that weekend travelers to Las Vegas will face delays. The project should be completed by the end of October.
