Publicly Funded Healthcare Makes Sense
The underlying issue about the debate over Proposition 72 -- whether employers should be responsible for the healthcare of their workers -- is seldom discussed (“State May Point Way on Health Insurance,” Oct. 16). If businesses really want to lower their healthcare costs they should advocate ending employer-financed healthcare altogether by supporting a publicly financed healthcare system. This would cover all Californians with excellent benefits and leave business paying a fair share. Meanwhile, we’ll vote yes on Proposition 72. Though the law is far from ideal, it would cover over a million workers who have no health insurance.
