Re “Army Reserve Unit Reportedly Balked at Risky Mission in Iraq,” Oct. 16: So, a group of soldiers all got together and decided not to go on a suicide run. They probably asked themselves, “What would our commander in chief do?” The answer, like our commander in chief, was a no-brainer.

After reading on the Internet about the trucks being without armor and the poor condition of the trucks, I don’t blame the soldiers for refusing to go. I wonder how many of our troops who were killed were in vehicles that were not armed or were in poor mechanical condition. Naturally the people in authority are not going to reveal what’s going on. You cannot send people into battle with a slingshot.

In Michael Ramirez’s editorial cartoon of Oct. 16, in which a U.S. tank soldier with a megaphone is announcing, “Attention Iraqi terrorists. Please suspend the insurgency until after November 2nd,” I do believe he finally got one right.
